Podcast
Who is this for?
This podcast is for anyone whose faith has shaped how they see the world—especially if what you were taught about Israel, Palestine, and the Bible left you with more questions than answers.
Whether you’re still in the church, have left evangelicalism, or are trying to engage family and friends shaped by it, we create space to wrestle honestly with scripture, history, and justice.
Through personal stories, friendships, and witness trips, we explore how faith traditions have often kept us from seeing suffering—and how they can be reimagined toward peace, dignity, and liberation for all.
Barnabas Lin
Barnabas brings years of experience in evangelical ministry and theological study to the podcast. He grew up in evangelicalism overseas, later attended Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and has led sessions at the Urban Admissions Conference. His journey through faith and ministry gives him a unique perspective on the far-reaching influence of evangelicalism.
Currently pursuing a PhD at Fuller Theological Seminary, Barnabas researches how biblical knowledge can both illuminate truth and make certain realities invisible. Together with co-host Erna, he is deeply committed to engaging scripture with honesty and care, naming the ways it has been misused—especially in relation to Israel and Palestine—while seeking a faith rooted in justice and liberation.
Erna Kim Hackett
Erna is a preacher, theologian, and founder. She is passionate about building communities of healing, justice, and liberation—especially for women of color. She spent 18 years with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, where she focused on social justice programs and Black Campus Ministries, and in 2015 she served as Director of Worship for the Urbana Missions Conference. In 2018, she moved to Berkeley to serve as Executive Pastor at The Way Christian Center, a historically Black church committed to social justice.
With a Master’s in Intercultural Studies from the Institute for Indigenous Theological Studies, Erna brings a deep grounding in Indigenous worldviews and decolonial frameworks to her work. She is also the founder of Liberated Together and the Liberated Together Spiritual Direction School, creating spaces for women of color to reconstruct faith with joy.
Erna has been married for 18 years, and is child free by choice.
